FAQs about this service:

Are the effects immediate?

Yes

Does it hurt?

Most treatments are carried out with anaesthetics, but as it is an injection, there may be some discomfort or pain. A local anaesthetic is used to make the treatment as comfortable as possible. For treatments near the mouth, such as lip treatments, the area is numbed with an injection that is similar to a dental anaesthetic.

Are there any side effects?

Many thousands of treatments have been carried out in the UK and even more around the world, with few serious or lasting side effects. Most people can return to their normal daily lives immediately after the treatment. However, your practitioner will explain the possible side effects during the initial consultation. The most common side effects are related to the fact that you have had injections in the area being treated: slight redness and mild swelling. Allergic reactions to dermal filler treatment are rare but can include redness, itching, swelling, hardness, or small bumps under the skin. These side effects may last for weeks or months, and sometimes longer; fortunately, they are very rare. If you have a history of cold sores, dermal filler treatment in that area might cause them to break out again. Your practitioner may recommend anti-viral cream (Zovirax) immediately after the treatment and for a few days afterwards to reduce the possibility of a recurrence.

How long does it last?

The results can last for 6 months or more, with the average first treatment lasting about 9–12 months. After this time, the lines start to gradually form again as the filler is naturally broken down by your body.

Who can carry out the treatments?

Only health professionals should carry out these procedures: pharmacists, nurses, doctors, and dentists. Do not go to anyone who is not medically qualified.

What are the risks?

Hyaluronic acid fillers have a very good safety profile, which is why we make them our first choice in dermal fillers. There is a very small risk of allergy, which is why you must ensure that you see a medically qualified practitioner.

Who cannot have the treatment?

You should not have dermal fillers if:

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding,

  • You are on antibiotics.
  • You have a known allergy to dermal fillers.
  • You have a bleeding or clotting disorder.

You will be advised individually if you have active acne, broken skin, or are prone to cold sores.
